The Last Poem I Wrote You

Even in the moment of farewell, I could not bring myself to resent you. I simply grieved for all the things that could have been. In your heart you knew it too, that we had — have, everything it takes.

06/02/2021: Living Memories

As the sun leaves the sky each day,

I close my eyes, comforted by the promise of tomorrow.

Oh all the wondrous moments from January through May!

How sweet a dream this has been, how I wish you could stay.

But alas, I know you must go; Parting is indeed such sweet sorrow.

Yet as the sun continues to disappear each evening,

The moon always rises to keep the night alight.

And as Summer ends and Fall sets in, so does our new beginning.

Wandering but not lost; Time will give ‘us’ a new meaning;

In our hearts we both know that we will be alright.

To all the smiles shared over a silly joke,

And the million butterflies in my stomach at your gentle strokes;

To all the times my heart skips a beat at your loving stares,

With my truths and vulnerabilities laid bare.

The memories shall live on, though Time may not be in our favor,

Because deep down we know, this is not Goodbye Forever.
